Nanofiltration Plant

Nanofiltration is the membrane filtration procedure that is generally used in water treatment plants in order to remove numerous contaminations from water. Although it’s a technology that lies between RO (Reverse Osmosis) & UF (Ultrafiltration) in the terms of pore size & filtration capabilities.

Nowadays, Nanofiltration is extensively used in the applications, such as:

  1. Drug manufacturing
  2. Textiles
  3. Production of the dairy products
  4. Drinking water
  5. Medical laboratory water
  6. Industrial kitchens

On the other hand, we can say, NF offers high rejection of the multivalent ions, like calcium, chloride, etc.

Advantages of NF (Nanofiltration)

NF offers a wide variety of advantages in numerous applications. Here are various advantages:

  • Reduces the heavy metals.
  • Disinfection
  • Reduces nitrates & sulphates successfully.
  • Chemical-free means during this process, no salts or chemicals are required.
  • It is the preferred process for removing the hardness of water without affecting the total dissolved solids.
  • Reduction in tannins, turbidity, and colour.
  • Lower retained concentrations and lower discharge volumes than Reverse Osmosis (RO) for low-value salts.
  • After the Nanofiltration process, the PH of water becomes normal.

Factors Affecting the Performance of NF Membranes:

Well, four factors can affect the Nano-filtration membranes. They are as follows:

  • Pressure
  • Solution PH
  • Crossflow velocity
  • Temperature

So, these are all about Nanofiltration in water treatment plants.
